8 Foot Pool Tables
An 8 foot pool table combines tournament quality play and space-saving design. The World Pool-Billiard Associations (WPA) has only two regulation sizes: 9 or 8 feet. Not everyone has room for a 9 foot table, but that should not stop you from enjoying regulation play. This size table is great for the serious player. It allows them to practice their skills on a regulation sized pool table.
The playing surface for an 8 foot pool table is 92 x 46 inches, with a 1/8th of an inch margin of error. Standard heights fall between 29.25 to 31 inches. Corner pocket mouths can be between 4.5 and 4.625 inches. Traditionally, side pockets will measure 1/2 inch wider than the corners.
Most billiard tables today use a fiberboard top, but regulation play demands that the pool table playing surface be made of slate, coming in three sections, that is of a specific thickness, and attached in a particular manner to the supporting structure of the table.
The size and weight of pool balls will vary according to the game you are playing, but the WPA has the same regulation for 8 or 9 foot pool tables. Their regulation states that the balls must weigh from 5.5 to 6 ounces, and should be 2.25 inches in diameter. This is the most common size used worldwide. Cues can be 48, 52, or 57 inches long. Cue length is an important factor when determining how big of a space is required for comfortable play. You can consult the guide below for more information:
CUE LENGTH | ROOM SIZE |
48" CUE | 11'3" X 14'6" |
52" CUE | 11'9" X 15'2" |
57" CUE | 12'8" X 16" |
CUE LENGTH | ROOM SIZE |
48" CUE | 11'9" X 15'4" |
52" CUE | 12'4" X 16" |
57" CUE | 13'2" X 16'9" |
CUE LENGTH | ROOM SIZE |
48" CUE | 12'3" X 16'4" |
52" CUE | 12'10" X 17' |
57" CUE | 13'8" X 17'10" |
What Size Pool Table Should I Get?
Before purchasing a pool table of any size, it's important to decide where your pool table is going to be installed. Pool tables are main furniture pieces, they are the star of the room. Let your pool table shine by choosing a table that fits your personal style and the room itself. An 8' long table is a good, versatile length for home or commercial use. Since 8 ft. is one of the regulation sizes, you can boost business by hosting tournaments! To determine what size pool table will fit best in your space, you will need a carpenter's measuring tape. For an 8 foot long pool table, it will need to be placed in a room that is at least 11' 9" X 15' 4."
Leaving space on all sides of the table is vital to game play. A too-large table in a small room will make playing nearly impossible. Keep in mind that you will also have cues and other accessories to be mindful of.
