Outdoor Games: Bocce Ball

Bocce is an outdoor game related to other boules sports. Its origins go all the way back to the Roman Empire. It is popular in Europe, North America, Australia, and South America. It was typically introduced to these countries from Italian migrants.

Bocce courts are either natural soil or asphalt, practically anywhere with a flat, open space. It works great in back yards or in parks. Since it requires no permanent equipment, you never have to worry about converting a space in the back yard into a designated Bocce court- any flat lawn will do!

Whether you are a serious, recreational, or beginning player, there are all sorts of Bocce sets to meet your needs. They come with a complete set of balls, convenient carrying cases, and set of rules.

Bocce requires a pallino (a smaller ball) and eight larger balls. Bocce balls are usually made of metal but are sometimes made of plastic. They are spherical, with no weighted bias. Games can be played with two to eight players, which makes setting up a game with friends easy.

The overall goal is to get your Bocce ball closest to the pallino than other balls. You get to score if you are the closest after a round. One point is awarded for every ball that is closer to the pallino than the nearest competitor's ball. The game is easy to learn and easy to set up. If you like other lawn games, you will like Bocce.
